A day in Santiago…
The day started early with a trip to the Pilgrim’s office to get their compostelas. They were happy they had registered the night before and cut down the processing time. Everything was well run and organized. Afterward they visited the cathedral’s museum and got just a couple of photos before being told “no photo”. Oops.…

Arco/O Pedrouzo to Santiago de Compostela…
Yeah! First off, Sara and Glenn made it to Santiago with a shorter 12 mile journey today. Fairly flat and a few sprinkles. Noticeably cooler temps. They did wonder at the planes flying overhead at one point as they walked in the hills and came across a busy airport that had tour buses pulling in.…

Ribadiso to Arco aka O Pedrozo…
Okay, a quick note about the Arco/ O Pedrozo double name thing…Glenn said he was told it was strictly a political controversy. Some say that Pedrozo is just a name of a street in the town. The day start with the heat and 80% humidity, making for discomfort in the journey. But ended in a…

Palas de Rei to Ribadiso…
Today was another very hot and very humid day of walking…from 7:30am to 3:30pm. Some shade and cloud cover made parts more bearable. This followed an hour of loud thunder, lightening, and rain as they were settling down to sleep last night. The 16 plus miles had more up and down hill paths. They were…

Portomarín to Palas de Rei…
Another 15 miles closer to Santiago today…with more hot and humid weather. It was pushing 40 degrees celsius, which translates to 104 fahrenheit. Some high clouds provided some relief for part of the journey. Again, many more people and school groups on the trail. Some high schools offer a summer program that gets the students…

Sarria to Portomarín…
After a good breakfast at the albergue, Sara and Glenn started their 13 mile walk to Portomarín. Again, more than expected uphill climbs and down hill slopes. Hard on the knees. The blessed morning fog lifted to another day of high temperatures, as well. Good while it lasted. They got a bit confused when their…

Sarria rest…
After a great night’s sleep, Sara and Glenn set out to explore Sarria a bit and take care of some chores. Laundry done. Trip to an outdoor equipment store to buy a hiking pole for Sara, replacement tips for Glenn’s poles and a shady hat. Pilgrim’s passport for Sara. Food. Ice cream. While Glenn waited…

Triacastela to Sarria…
June 11th…today’s trek was shorter that usual, but Glenn said it still seemed long. Lots of climbing up and down again. The first hour was foggy and cold, for which he was glad. The coming heat was delayed a bit. Breakfast was at a welcoming “donativo”. A home and shelter where snacks can be picked…

Herrerias to Triacastela…
Today, Glenn entered the region of Galacia and the mountains with stunning views. Lots of climbing steep uphills and then downhills. He walked his first 10 km on an empty stomach, as he left before the hotel was open for breakfast. This was the case many days…leaving to get an early start to beat the…
